Jenny Bowen, Executive Director of Half the Sky Foundation
Like many adoptive parents of children from China, Jenny Bowen returned with a desire to preserve some link to her daughter's past, and to give something back to her daughter's home country and to the many children left behind. With Maya's adoption in 1997, she also became an avid student of early childhood development theories and practices. She and husband Richard joined with fellow adoptive parents to form Half the Sky in 1998. Daughter Anya joined the family in 2000. A former screenwriter and film director, she began her motion picture career working for Francis Ford Coppola after several years working in the theater. In addition to writing screenplays for major Hollywood producers, Jenny was writer-director on several independent films. She, her husband Richard, and their two youngest children live in Hong Kong and she is a regular commuter to Half the Sky's Beijing office, as well as its many sites.

Hi All,
I'd love it if as many of you as possible would consider following this link and going to vote for Jenny as an Olympic Torch Bearer. Jenny Bowen is an amazing woman who founded Half the Sky, an amazing charity that directly impacts the lives of thousands of orphans in China each year. HTS is one of the charities that I support, and I have been very touched by the impact that they have had on the lives of children in China - not only those who are adopted, but those who remain behind.
I have three children adopted from China, and have worked with hundreds more. Groups like Half the Sky make a significant impact on the lives of the children in social welfare institutes in China, and I hope you will consider voting for her.
How fantastic it would be to have Jenny as a torch bearer for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing - truly someone who has impacted thousands and thousands of lives...
